HAYWARD, CA — A man suspected of drunk driving was arrested Tuesday night after officers clocked him going more than 120 miles per hour on a Hayward freeway, authorities said.
It's unclear where the driver was headed or coming from. Police say two officers were on the highway conducting speed enforcement when a driver zoomed past at 129 miles per hour, according to the California Highway Patrol in Hayward.
When the officers pulled the driver over, they suspected he was driving under the influence and conducted a test, authorities said.
After the test, the driver was taken into custody on suspicion of drunk driving, authorities said.
A photo shared by the agency reveals the driver had a blood alcohol content of .209, more than two-and-a-half times the legal limit.
"Speed limits are NOT suggestions," the CHP said in a statement Wednesday. "Saving a few minutes isn't worth a lifetime of consequences"
