Bank Robber Escapes On Bicycle, Arrested: Police
An alert witness called police as the robbery was happening, ensuring that the man didn't get far on his getaway bike.
HAYWARD, CA — Hayward Police are crediting an alert, cool-headed witness for helping to catch an alleged bank robber. When arrested, police say, "The man had the bank’s money, a loaded gun and other getaway tools." The man's name has not been released.
According to police, a man wearing a curly wig and mask walked into the bank with a demand note for money. He then put the loaded gun on the counter. A customer noticed what was happening, called police and gave "an excellent description."
The customer continued to watch the man as he rode rode away on a bicycle — directly into the path of officers who had been dispatched to the bank robbery.
