BART Riding Suspect Arrested In Attempted Sexual Assault

He was detained in Berkeley Friday afternoon.

EL CERRITO, CA — A suspect in Tuesday's attempted sexual assault in El Cerrito was arrested in Berkeley Friday afternoon, according to El Cerito Police.

Mario Xavier Hills was spotted by a citizen near the Safeway on Shattuck Avenue. That person called Berkeley Police, who detained Hills until El Cerrito Police could get there. Hills was arrested and booked into the

Martinez Detention Facility where he is being held on attempted sexual assault charges.
His bail is set at $100,000.

The El Cerrito Police Department would like to thank the Berkeley Police Department and the public for their assistance.

Police believe Hills is the man who grabbed a woman and attempted to sexually assault her at about 6:40 a.m. Tuesday near the intersection of Stockton Avenue and Balra Drive.

The victim screamed, alerting neighbors and prompting the suspect to flee.

In a message Friday afternoon, El Cerrito Police publicaly thanked the Berkeley Police Department and the public for their assistance.
