CASTRO VALLEY, CA — A piece of scientific equipment was blown up by a bomb squad Monday evening following a report of a suspicious device in Castro Valley, a sheriff's spokesman said.

The county bomb squad responded at 5:20 p.m. to Redwood Road and Grove Way where they found a box with wires and components, sheriff's spokesman Sgt. Ray Kelly said.

"It was not a bomb at all," Kelly said. The bomb squad blew up the equipment and an investigation afterwards revealed it was not a bomb.
