Castro Valley Adult School Waste Audit
On Thursday, December 18th, Castro Valley Adult School completed the first waste audit of the school year.
As a part of CVSan’s Green Ribbon Schools Program, on Thursday, December 18th, Castro Valley Adult School completed the first waste audit of the school year. CVSan staff and the Castro Valley Adult School team of 9 students and 3 teachers had a great time sorting through 1 day’s worth of garbage from the school to see what could actually have been placed in the recycling bin or organics carts.
In this hands-on learning experience, students found out of 96.25 gallons of garbage from the day before, only 11% was actual garbage and therefore a total of 89% could have gone in the recycling or organics cart. The students learned there is still work to be done to educate fellow students, teachers, and staff how to sort their waste on campus. Last year, Castro Valley Adult School reduced their garbage service by 1 cubic yard and added outdoor recycling, organics, and garbage containers in the campus courtyard. Nice job Castro Valley Adult School for continuing to reduce your waste at school and keep up the good work!
