Castro Valley High School Cheer Squads Earn Awards at Summer Cheer Camp

The three Castro Valley High School cheer squads garnered ribbons, spirit sticks, trophies and awards after attending the UCA Cheer Camp at UC Davis this summer.
While at the competition, the team was awarded the “Top Banana Award” and the “UCA Leadership Award.” The Varsity Cheer squad also earned the “Superior Squad Award.”

Two JV Cheer girls (Captain Ariana Kwon and Lucy Sabatelli) and two Varsity Cheer girls (Brenna Lew and Michaela Wood) made UCA All-American and qualified to perform in the London New Year’s Day Parade. The Varsity Cheer senior captains (Head Cheerleader Brittany Lopes, Captain-Emma Donovan and Captain-Alison Dhont) were invited to perform in the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade in New York and the entire team was invited to perform in the pre-game performance at the Capital One Bowl in Florida on New Year’s Day.
“The girls worked very hard and they stood out as one of the camp’s top teams. This is an amazing group of girls and their season is off to a great start!”

The Frosh/Soph Cheer squad is coached by Stefanie Alcomendras.The JV Cheer squad is coached by Michelle Baker and the Varsity Cheer squad is coached by Samantha Eckel.
