Castro Valley Man Shot To Death In Richmond

Two boys, aged 15 and 17, have been arrested in the killing.

NORTH RICHMOND, CA — Two youths were arrested this afternoon in connection with a homicide Friday in the unincorporated Contra Costa County community of North Richmond, sheriff's officials said.

The two boys, who are 15 and 17 years old, are not being identified by the sheriff's office.

On Friday at 6:25 p.m. deputies were sent to Fourth Street and Silver Avenue after someone reported a person had been shot, according to the sheriff's office.

Deputies arrived and found an injured man in a vehicle near a home in the 300 block of Silver Avenue.

The man was suffering from a gunshot wound and was pronounced dead where deputies found him. Sheriff's officials identified the man as 60-year-old Raymond Vasquez of Castro Valley. Sheriff's officials said Vasquez apparently was in North Richmond to buy drugs.

Allegedly, an altercation occurred between Vasquez and the boys and one of them shot Vasquez. The boys allegedly ran away after the shooting.

The boys were booked into juvenile hall on suspicion of murder, robbery, conspiracy, and participating in a gang.
