Chabot basketball roundup: Hector has big week for Gladiators
Chabot splits games in West Valley tourney
The Chabot men’s basketball team continued to build momentum for conference play splitting games this past week.
The Gladiators routed Hartnell, 94-54, and played competitively against state No. 4-ranked West Valley in an 84-71 defeat, both in the West Valley tournament.
Against Hartnell, David Hector and Zach Broadous both had double-doubles. Hector amassed 22 points and 11 rebounds, nine on the defensive end, and Broadous had 22 points and 11 rebounds, nine on defense. The Gladiators shot 55 percent from the floor, topped by Broadous and Hector, who were a combined 16 of 23.
Against West Valley (13-1), which has only lost by one point to CCSF, Hector led Chabot with 23 points to go with eight rebounds and two assists. David Ogunleye had a team-high 12 rebounds, three blocks and nine points.
Chabot (6-5) will host Cabrillo (7-5) at 6 p.m. on Tuesday in nonconference play.
WOMEN’S BASKETBALL
TUMLIN LEADS WAY WITH 27 POINTS
The Chabot women’s team (4-11) had a 1-2 record in the North-South Basketball Classic, with a win over Pasadena City, 69-62, and losses to Mt. San Antonio, 74-45, and Moorpark, 70-56.
Against Pasadena City, Chabot’s Kelly Tumlin had a game-high 27 points and Ariel Hines added 19 points. Dede Franklin had nine assists.
