The Chabot College football team, which rolled out a devastating spread offense in a 41-24 win over visiting Siskiyous to open the season, will face a tough test when the Gladiators travel to Reedley (1-0) on Saturday.
The Tigers are ranked 18th in the state JCAB Football Poll (20th in the CCCSIA) after rallying past host Shasta 47-28 in their opener. Chabot is ranked in the “others” category in two state polls.
Saturday’s kickoff is 1 p.m. at Orange Cove High School in Orange Cove (Reedley’s temporary home).
Two Chabot players — quarterback Kekoa Turangan (Leilehua-Hawaii) and slot receiver Damien Moun (Servite-Anaheim) are ranked in the state’s top five statistically. Tuakoi Maho (Mt. Eden) led the Chabot defense with 10 total tackles, and Robert Porter (Granada) had a sack and six total tackles.
In its season opener, Reedley trailed 21-20 at halftime before scoring the game's final 20 points. Reedley took the lead for good with 3:15 left in the third quarter on a 1-yard plunge by quarterback Joshua Magana, who finished with 234 passing yards and three touchdowns.
