Chabot Moves Up To State No. 22 Ranking

Gladiators' men's and women's teams on an uptick early in Coast-North Conference play

Fresh off a rousing home victory over district-rival Las Positas on Friday, the surging Chabot men’s basketball team vaulted into the CCCMBCA Top 30 Poll, taking the No. 22 spot on Jan. 18 after being unranked.

Las Positas is ranked No. 21, dropping three spots from the previous poll.

The Gladiators improved to 10-8 overall and 3-1 in the Coast-North Conference with an 88-77 triumph over Las Positas, in which the host Gladiators stormed to a 20-point lead in the first half and then responded to a big Las Positas push late.

David Hector led Chabot with a double-double of 22 points and 10 rebounds. Diggy Winbush stepped up with 19 points and six steals, seven rebounds and three assists. Zach Broadous amassed 11 points, nine assists, seven rebounds and two steals as all five Chabot starters reached double figures in scoring.

Jalen Patterson paced Las Positas with 24 points, Isaiah Victor added 17 points and Jaden Phillips and Jordahn Johnson both had double-doubles.

With CCCSF (16-2, 4-0) leading the conference standings, there is a tight battle for the next few spots among Chabot, Foothill (11-7, 3-1), Ohlone (13-5, 2-2), Las Positas (12-6, 2-2) and Skyline (9-9, 2-2). Chabot looks to build on its three-game winning streak this week against two teams winless in conference, at Canada (5-13, 0-4) on Wednesday and at home against CSM (10-8, 0-4) on Friday.

WOMEN’S BASKETBALL

The improving Gladiators (7-14, 2-1 Coast-North) won their second consecutive game, beating district-rival Las Positas 69-39 on Friday, Jan. 13.

Chabot also bounced Ohlone 73-47 on Jan. 11 in Fremont, when Cassidy Duncan scored 10 points in her season debut. Dede Franklin led the Gladiators with 25 points.

Against Las Positas, Arielle Hines led with 19 points and Kelly Tumlin had 18. Ashley Ndikum contributed 10 points and brought great energy off the bench.
