Chabot’s Cress Wins Second State Wrestling Title
Antioch High graduate becomes third wrestler in college's history to win two state championships
Chabot College sophomore Anthony Cress won a second straight CCCAA State Wrestling championship, defeating Brian Horn of Sacramento City 6-3 in the 197-pound final Saturday at Cerritos College.
Cress, a 26–year-old Antioch High graduate, served in the U.S. Army for 6 years. He becomes the third two-time state champ in Chabot wrestling history.
Cress also won the 174-pound state title in 2017. He also repeated as NorCal regional champion last week, beating Horn in the final.
Chabot finished 12th as a team at the state tourney with 31 points. Chabot’s Kevin Garcia (165) finished sixth, dropping his final consolation match by a Major Decision to Moorpark’s Devin Top, 12-1.
