Chabot Shines At NorCal Track

Andie Aymond wins women's pole vault title, sprinters take second; Muhammed Ahmed thrives in distances.

Chabot sprinter Zion Mayo and distance runner Muhammed Ahmed paced the Gladiators men’s track and field team in the Northern California Championship Finals at Yuba College on Friday, May 12.

The Glads have set four school records this season and will send six to the State Championships May 19-20 at Modesto Junior College.
Mayo, a sophomore, blazed to runner-up finishes in the 100 meters and 200 meters in times of 10.66 and 21.55 seconds. Ahmed, another sophomore, was third in the 5000 (15:07.91) and second in the 10000 (31:51.35). Ahmed holds school records in both events: 14:30 and 30:24.
Chabot freshman Logan Phillips was fourth in the 3000 Steeplechase (10:20.02). Freshman Diesel Wilson was third in the long jump (22-9.25). Chabot was fifth in the men’s 4x100 relay (41.67). Marcell Anderson was seventh in the 100 and 200.
Sophomore Skyelar Connelly was 12th in the pole vault (12-11.5).
Chabot finished seventh in the men’s team standings with 49 points.
NORCAL CHAMP
In women’s action, Chabot had a big highlight when Andie Aymond earned the NorCal title in the pole vault with a mark of 11 feet, 7.75 inches — a PR and a school record.
The Glads sizzled in the sprints as freshman Egypt Hughes was second in the 100 meters (11.90) — a school record — and seventh in the 200 (25.79). Freshman Aniya Shields was eighth in the 100 (12.46).
Freshman Ariana Chavez was fourth in the 800 (2:21.76).
Chabot was 12th in the team standings with 26 points.
Chabot’s State qualifiers are composed of 3 women: Hughes in the 100; Aymond in the pole vault; and Chavez in the 800; and 3 men: Mayo in the 100 and 200; Wilson in the long jump; and Muhammed in the 5k and 10k.
