Chabot sports report: Gladiators AJ Cress second at West Hills wrestling tournament

Gladiators soccer and football teams prep for conference play in, while the wrestling team is carving out a solid season

The Chabot wrestling team had six individual placers at the West Hills Tournament, paced by AJ Cress, the close runner-up in the 174-pound division.

All but five of the state’s community college wrestling teams participated in the strong event, and Chabot finished seventh. Cress dropped a 4-3 decision to Abel Garcia of Sacramento City in the championship round.

Cress and Garcia have quite a rivalry brewing. It was Cress who beat Garcia in overtime in the championship match of the Sacramento City tourney to earn Tech-Fall California Community College Wrestler of the Week honors on Sept.20.
