Chabot Women Off To Blazing Start

Glads, led by All-State player Kelly Tumlin, open season with six straight wins.

With Thanksgiving fast approaching, Chabot women’s basketball coach Mark Anger has much to be thankful for.
His young squad opened the season with six consecutive wins and features a dazzling array of veterans and newcomers. The Glads, unranked to start the season, moved up to No. 20 in the Nov. 13 State Rankings, and No. 8 in the North Region.
“We are off to a great start to the season,” Anger says.
The team is getting leadership from its two captains, Leilani Gonzalez and Kelly Tumlin, a returning All-State player averaging 19 points a game. Plus, the fresh faces are making an immediate impact.
“We have nine newcomers and they have been a big part of our success,” Anger said. “Lexi Pletschette hit a single game record of 8 3’s against Mission College and has averaged 16.4 points a game.”
Moreover, Mia Hunter, out of three-time State champ Oakland Tech, has played “great defense,” the coach says.
Additionally, sophomore Jadyn Anderson, a transfer from Holy Names, is averaging 13.2 ppg and playing excellent defense.
The Glads have a tough test against host Santa Rosa (5-1), ranked sixth in the state, on Nov. 28.
