Chabot women excel in West Hills tourney
Steen comes off the bench to spark the young Gladiators, and Masulit leads the way
The Chabot women’s basketball team completed the West Hills tournament in Lemoore with back-to-back blowout victories to improve to 9-3 overall.
The Gladiators rebounded from a loss to Fresno City with a 94-49 rout of Hartnell and 95-48 romp over Rio Honda. Ferryn Steen scored 19 points and Kim Masulit added 14 points against Rio Honda. Against Hartnell, Masulit had four 3-pointers and 14 points.
Overall, Masulit had a big week, also scoring 14 against powerful Fresno City. Steen also came off the bench for 13 points and five boards. Mia Finnie nearly had a double-double with eight points and 10 rebounds.
Chabot will have the week off before completing nonconference play in the Pre New Year’s Kickoff Classic at Cuesta College.
The Gladiators will host San Jose at 5 p.m. on Jan. 3 in their Coast-North Conference opener. The biggie will be when Chabot hosts CCSF (11-1) on Jan. 5, also at 5 p.m.
