Smoke alarms alerted the girl to the fire and she helped her father escape through a second-floor window, Nichelson said. A construction crew was nearby and helped them out by putting a ladder up to the second floor. Firefighters arrived and found heavy smoke and flames coming from both floors of the home.
The fire was controlled in about 20 minutes, Nichelson said. The fire displaced six residents from the 1,800-square-foot home. It appears to have started in the kitchen, but the exact cause remains under investigation, Nichelson said. No one was injured in the blaze.
