Former Liberty Star Shines in Chabot Cross Country Debut

Chabot College freshman Dylan Baptista, a former Liberty High-Brentwood star, was the top freshman finisher in the Kim Duyst Twilight Cross Country Invitational (Universities) hosted by Cal State Stanislaus on Saturday, Sept. 9.
Baptista completed the 8-kilometer (4.97 mile) run in a time of 26 minutes and 03 seconds, placing 19th overall. The meet was held at River Oaks Golf Course in Ceres.
Baptista was pitted against runners from Stanislaus State, UC Riverside and Cal State East Bay in a seven-team field.
“He had a phenomenal college debut,” Chabot head coach Kyle Robinson said of Baptista, the 2022-23 Bay Valley Athletic League MVP and league meet champion in boys cross country.
Chabot sophomore Daniel Trampe, a Dublin High graduate, paced the team, in 10th place (25:02), and Logan Phillips also had a strong freshman debut with a time of 21:11. Kyle Galinis and Anthony rounded out Chabot’s top five as the Gladiators brought a partial squad to the meet and finished fifth.
On the women’s side, Chabot freshman Savannah Masselli placed 30th with a time of 26:03 in a 6K (4.75 mile) race.
The field included athletes from CSU Stanislaus, Cal State East Bay, UC Merced, Academy of Art-San Francisco, William Jessup, and Sacramento City College.
