Gladiators Land All-Bay 6 Football Haul

Weekly sports report: Chabot players honored for hard work in tough conference

An impressive group of Chabot football players were picked to the Bay 6 All-Conference team, led by unanimous selections Esa Pole (6-7, 320), a dominant offensive tackle; Damien Moun, the state’s top-ranked wideout with 73 receptions; and Tuakoi Mahe, who ranked No. 5 in the state and No. 1 in the conference in tackles.

Moun also ranked No. 11 in the state with 793 yards. He was voted as the Bay 6 No. 1 receiver.
Versatile offensive lineman Chris McAlpin (6-3, 315) earned his second All-Bay 6 selection and played all five positions for the Gladiators.
Robert Porter (6-2, 285), a Granada High graduate, was also a two-time All-Bay 6 pick. A force inside, he had 44 total tackles, seven sacks and 12.5 tackles for loss, as an interior offensive lineman.
Linebacker Pate Haunga (6-2, 250) was also a two-time all-conference pick who epitomized Gladiator football. He was all-conference on offense last year and didn’t miss a beat this year after switching to defense.
Receiver Jeremiah Crum, a true freshman, was also All-Bay 6 after scoring 10 touchdowns. He had receiving performances of 109, 124, 163, and 114 yards.
Quarterback Kekoa Turangan has received an offer from Iowa Wesleyan.
CROSS COUNTRY
Chabot’s Muhammed Ahmed finished 22nd in the men’s 4.0 mile race at the CCCAA State Cross Country Championships at Woodward Park in Fresno. His time was 20 minutes, 49.3 seconds.
Chabot’s Daniel Trampe finished 30th in a time of 21:02.3.
Chabot was 13th as a team with 346 points
MEN'S BASKETBALL
The Chabot men’s basketball team had a 1-2 record against tough competition in the Shasta Invitational last week. The Gladiators, ranked No. 4 in the Preseason CCCMBCA Men’s Basketball Poll, will travel to Monterey Peninsula on Tuesday, Nov. 22.
The Gladiators opened the Shasta Invitational with a 76-66 win over host Shasta. Jaiden Rivera came off the bench to score a team-high 20 points, going 6 for 8 from the field. David Hector had a double-double with 15 points and 10 rebounds.
The Gladiators (4-2) then fell to No. 5 ranked Santa Rosa 74-56 and Merritt 58-55. Zach Broadous had a game-high 22 points against Merritt, and David Ogunleye had a double-double with 10 points and 10 rebounds.
The Gladiators struggled from the floor against Santa Rosa, shooting 29 percent. Diggy Winbush had 13 points, six rebounds, five steals and two assists.
WOMEN’S BASKETBALL
The Gladiators (3-6) had a 1-2 mark in the power-packed Sierra Tournament, notching a victory over Redwoods 74-63. Arielle Hines led the way with 26 points. Kendra Grant added 21 points and Dede Franklin dished out nine assists and played tough defense.
Chabot, ranked 11th in the Preseason CCCWBCA North Region, also fell to No. 2 Sierra, the defending state champs, and No. 4 in the Sierra event.
The Gladiators are off this week and will compete in the Gilcrest Tournament Dec. 1-3 at College of Seqouias.
