Hayward Homicide Investigation Underway

The shooting victim was pronounced dead at the scene.

HAYWARD, CA — Police in Hayward are investigating the shooting death of a man on Monday morning.

At about 8:30 a.m., officers responded to a call in the 27000 block of Whitman Street regarding an assault with a deadly weapon.

Upon arrival, officers located an unresponsive male suffering from a gunshot wound, police said. Emergency medical personnel pronounced the man dead at the scene.

Police have arrested a suspect and have not released the person's name, though police say that there are no other outstanding suspects and no known threats to the community. HPD is investigating the motive and circumstances of the shooting.

The victim's name is being withheld pending notification of next of kin.

This is Hayward's fourth homicide of the year, HPD said.
