Hayward Man Caught With Bundles Of Meth, Rifle In Oakland: Police

HAYWARD, CA — A Hayward man was arrested last week after police say they caught him in possession of drugs and a high-powered gun in East Oakland.

Police did not identify the suspect, but said a patrol officer located him on Aug. 4.

After searching him, the officer found individually packaged bundles of suspected methamphetamine, along with an AR-style riflefrom his vehicle, according to the Oakland Police Department.

It's unclear exactly what the suspect was booked on suspicion of or what charges they may face.

Police announced the arrest in a press release touting efforts by the Oakland Police Department's Crime Reduction Teams (CRT) East and West and the California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation Parole Office.

More guns and drugs were taken off East Bay streets just days earlier during an investigation that netted officers nine arrests on suspicion of parole violations. Those arrested were parolees living in Alameda, Emeryville, Oakland and San Leandro.

"We are committed to proactive policing by removing illegal firearms and drugs from the streets and will continue to prioritize the safety and well-being of our community," Oakland police said. "Building Trust and Strengthening Community is our commitment to you."
