Man Waving Gun In The Air Shot By Hayward Police

The gunman was hospitalized. After the shooting, police discovered that his gun was fake.

HAYWARD, CA — A man waving a gun in the air was shot by two Hayward Police officers Tuesday morning, according to Officer Claudia Mau. He is expected to survive. The man's gun was later determined to be a replica.

The gunman was taken to the hospital for treatment. His name has not been released.

The two officers, whose identities have not been made public, have been placed on routine administrative leave. They were wearing body cameras at the time of the shooting. That video will be released at a later date.

Both the Hayward Police Department and the Alameda County District Attorney's Office are investigating the shooting.

The shooting took place on Mission Boulevard at Valle Vista Avenue. It happened around 9 a.m. Mission was closed between Valle Vista and Tennyson for several hours because of the investigation.
