"We are proud to offer this three-day seminar that will be dedicated to in-depth education and career/education planning, classroom expectations, finance and benefits information, campus life, community resources and veteran support services," said Veterans First Supervisor, Todd Steffan. "Operation Gateway is also a great opportunity for Veterans to experience firsthand the community and camaraderie that we have here at Las Positas College."
The past eleven Operation Gateways events occurred on campus, but due to the shelter in place order, LPC has adapted to the changes by offering an exciting, live interactive online series promoting the core values of Operation Gateway - camaraderie, connection with community resources, and classroom tools for success. The seminar will be facilitated by a different Las Positas College student Veteran each day:
Wednesday, July 29 - Viviana Martinez, Marine, business major
Thursday, July 30 - Ron Payne, Army, political science major
Friday, July 31 - Destiny Goddu, electrical engineering major
In addition to informational sessions and workshops, Veterans will also have the opportunity to connect with other Veterans, students, staff, and members from community organizations. Textbook stipends will be available for eligible student veterans.
Operation Gateway is sponsored by the Las Positas College Veterans First Program, which provides veterans with services and resources to assist them in achieving their educational goals. During the past academic year, more than 500 Veterans, military members, and military family members were enrolled at LPC.
Veteran support services at LPC include a full-time program supervisor, full-time Veterans specialist, full-time Veterans counselor, Veterans resource center, virtual front desk, priority registration, various success workshops, a book loan program, a study/drop-in tutorial center, day care and diaper relief fund program, scholarships, work-study program, and an active Student Veterans Organization.
