Las Positas soccer teams set for home playoff doubleheader

Historic seasons for men's and women's soccer at Las Positas College. Both teams unbeaten in Coast-North play.

It has been a sensational and historic soccer season at Las Positas. Consider the following headlines:

MAJOR HONORS
Las Positas women’s soccer coach Paul Sapsford was voted as Coast-North Coach of the Year, and Hawks midfielder Camila Fonseca, a former Mt. Eden High-Hayward star, was picked as conference Player of the Year. The Hawks’ Rhiannon Adams is the Defender of the Year. Jennifer Parker is the Goalkeeper of the Year.

Fonseca, who is headed to Sacramento State, is tied for the state lead in assists with 23, and Parker is ranked No. 2 in the state in save percentage at .933.
PLAYOFF TIME
A soccer doubleheader is set for Saturday at Las Positas in the Northern California Regionals: The No. 4 seeded LPC women (15-1-2) vs. No. 13 San Joaquin Delta (10-7-4) at 1 p.m. The No. 4 seeded LPC men (13-3-6) will face No. 13 Canada (8-4-7) at 4 p.m. Delta finished 6-7-3 in the powerful Big 8 Conference.
NO LOSSES COMBINED
Remarkably, the Hawks' men's and women's teams both went without a loss in conference play, with a combined 20-0-4 record. The women’s team marched to a 11-0-0 conference mark, and the Hawks men were 9-0-4.
MANNING UP
The Las Positas men, guided by head coach Andy Cumbo, formerly the Cal State East Bay men's coach, capped a smashing conference season with a 1-0 win at CCSF. Defender Nick Tucker had the dramatic game-winning goal.
Las Positas goalkeeper Brannon Dwyer is ranked fifth in the state in save percentage at .878. Jake "Cowboy" Foscalina has amassed 11 goals (tied for 18th in the state) and four assists. Matt Hafizi was No. 2 on the team in scoring with six goals and three assists, and midfielder Omid Eibagi had a team-high eight assists. Alex Charvet had seven assists.
AMAZING MARCO
Former Hawks star Marco Neves finished the season with four goals and two assists at Seton Hall. Neves scored in a 3-2 loss to Xavier on Oct. 28. Amazing Marco had 25 goals in the 2016 season with Las Positas, one off the state lead.
