Man, 39, Charged with Killing Fellow Transient in December

A transient has been arrested and charged with murder for the death of a 68-year-old man who was found unresponsive behind a pizza parlor in Hayward last month, police said today.

Kenneth Poggi, 39, was arrested after detectives developed information connecting him to the death of fellow transient Barton Feldman, who was found unresponsive behind a pizza parlor in the 400 block of West Harder Road at 8:05 a.m. on Dec. 4. Feldman was pronounced dead at the scene. The Alameda County coroner’s bureau determined that Feldman died from multiple stab wounds.

Police issued a warrant for Poggi’s arrest in late December and he was located and arrested on Jan. 6 by Oakland police on an unrelated charge as well as the arrest warrant. The Alameda County District Attorney’s Office has charged Poggi with murder with the use of a knife. Poggi is in custody at the Santa Rita Jail in Dublin and jail records indicate he is scheduled to be arraigned in Alameda County Superior Court at 2 p.m. today.
