In ever so typical Toastmasters fashion, several people assigned roles were not able to make it to the meeting. It's called life! So, the Toastmaster of the meeting, Werner, in conjunction with officers who were present, got with members who were there and got all the role positions filled and we even talked one of our members into giving an impromptu 5-7 minute speech to fill one of the two vacant speaker positions.
Fred started us off with his 3rd speech, "A Simple Choice of Life." He was cool, calm, and collected as usual as he told us about the three ways to wash the dishes: By hand, using technology, and using the LGC method to get someone else to do them for you. LGC stands for Love, Guilt or Coercion. He had us rolling on the floor! Pam gave the evaluation, with the proper balance of pointing out primarily the things he did right, how he has improved, and a couple of items to consider for further improvement.
Noah then took the podium to give us an impromptu speech he titled "I Can See Clearly Now" only a few minutes earlier. This was his sixth speech, with the focus being vocal variety. It was truly an impromptu speech, not the typical pocket speech that Toastmasters have ready to give on a moments notice. Noah spoke of the influence of music in his life. Vangie gave the evaluation, praising Noah not only taking a bold step in giving an impromptu speech, but in also incorporating all the previous feedback he has gotten from his previous projects. Jim, the General Evaluator, also commented that Noah looked the most at ease that he had ever seen him and that Noah really looked like he was having fun giving the speech tonight. Noah confirmed that he really did enjoy it.
Janet led the Table Topics session focusing on the Mothers Day theme, drawing out memories of members' relationships with their mothers.
Next meeting: May 8, 7 p.m. at the Castro Valley Moose Lodge at 20835 Rutledge Rd. The meeting theme is Adversity.
