A motorcyclist killed when he crashed into a box truck on Interstate Highway 880 in Hayward last week was identified today as a 56-year-old Brentwood resident, according to the Alameda County coroner’s bureau. Gerry Lieberwirth was riding his Harley-Davidson and splitting lanes on southbound Highway 880 near the connector ramp to the San Mateo-Hayward Bridge at about 6 a.m. on Feb. 1 when he slammed into the truck, according to the California Highway Patrol.

He was thrown from the bike and run over by the truck. Lieberwirth died from his injuries at the scene, CHP officials said. CHP officials said after the crash it did not appear that alcohol or drugs were a factor. The truck driver was not cited.
