Rowell Ranch, Livermore Rodeos 2020 Canceled Due To Coronavirus
"During this time of uncertainty, it is critical that we focus on the safety and well-being of our friends and neighbors."
CASTRO VALLEY, CA — Add the 100th Rowell Ranch Pro Rodeo and the 2020 Livermore Rodeo to the lengthy list of events scrapped due to the coronavirus woes.
Planned for May 15-17 in the Hayward/Castro Valley area, the Rowell Ranch rodeo's organizers cited health and safety concerns for the 2020 cancellation decision, adding that the festivities will resume for its 100th year May 14-16, 2021.
"Since its beginning the historic East Bay event has been a time for friends and neighbors to come together and celebrate our community and our history," the association said in a statement. "During this time of uncertainty, it is critical that we focus on the safety and well-being of our friends and neighbors. We will get through this time by working together as we look forward to celebrating the 100th Rowell Ranch Pro Rodeo next year."

Mid-June would have marked the 102nd year for Livermore's multi-day exhibition, with its accompanying downtown parade, rodeo queen and princess competitions and riding and roping contests. The board of directors voted to cancel as the COVID-19 pandemic news mounted, and organizers now have sights set for 2021, as well.

"The decision to cancel this year’s event to ensure the safety and success of our beloved rodeo, and the patrons, guests and volunteers that attend, was easy," said Colby Staysa, Livermore Stockmen's Rodeo Association president. "Saying, 'We aren’t doing it in 2020,' was terribly hard as we internally struggled to find a way to keep the tradition alive."
With a goal of returning "bigger and better," the 103rd Livermore Rodeo now is set for June 11-13, 2021. Tickets will go on sale next April. Follow this link for more information.
