Student With Loaded Gun Arrested At Arroyo High School: Deputies

Other students told school officials about the gun.

SAN LORENZO, CA — One student was arrested at Arroyo High School in San Lorenzo for allegedly having a loaded, concealed gun on campus, according to the Alameda County Sheriff's Office. Two other students, friends of the teen arrested, were detailed.

No shots were fired, and there were no injuries.

According to the Sheriff's Office, students told school officials about the gun. "School officials immediately notified our SRO’s (school resource officers) of the situation and an immediate response plan was put into place. To preserve order and keep everyone safe, the school was placed on lock down."

Addition law enforcement - deputies, San Leandro Police and California Highway Patrol officers - responded to the school along with tactical officers and equipment.

The student was in class. A call was made into classroom to inform the teacher of the situation. Officers quickly detained the student without incident.

"A search of the area around the student revealed a loaded semi-automatic handgun in a backpack. The student was arrested and later transported to juvenile hall."

The school remained locked down as deputies systematically searched the campus. The lock down went into effect around 2:30 p.m. and was lifted before 4 p.m.
