Victim of Intersection Homicide Identified

The man was shot in his pickup truck Wednesday as he waited at the intersection.

A man who was fatally shot while he was stopped at an intersection in Cherryland in unincorporated Alameda County on Wednesday was identified by authorities today as 38-year-old Adan Farrid Katami of Antioch.

A male suspect and a female accomplice have been arrested but Alameda County sheriff's spokesman Sgt. Ray Kelly said authorities aren't yet releasing their names because the investigation into the shooting is at a
sensitive state.

Kelly said sheriff's investigators are meeting with prosecutors in the Alameda County District Attorney's Office and charges against the suspects could be filed on Friday.

Kelly said Katami was stopped in his red Dodge pickup truck on southbound Meekland Avenue at about 1 p.m. on Wednesday while he was waiting to make a left turn onto Blossom Hill Road when a gunman approached and shot him multiple times at close range.

The male suspect fled on foot down nearby railroad tracks.

Deputies responded and shut down the intersection, where Katami was pronounced dead.

Sheriff's deputies set up a perimeter, used dogs and a helicopter and reviewed surveillance footage to search for the suspect.

Deputies eventually arrested the male suspect and the female accomplice, according to Kelly.

Search teams have spent the past 24 hours looking for the handgun that was used to kill Katami but haven't yet found it, Kelly said.

Authorities haven't disclosed a motive for the shooting.
