Breaking: Barricaded Gunman Near UCLA Escapes Police

An armed man who showed up at his ex-girlfriend's apartment near campus barricaded himself in the building before escaping the SWAT Team.

Police descended on a Westwood apartment building today when a woman reported that a former boyfriend was armed with a gun inside her residence when she arrived home.

The woman said she went home to her apartment in the 1000 block of Tiverton Avenue, near the UCLA campus, about 4 p.m. to find her ex-boyfriend, who was armed with a handgun, inside the unit with another person, Officer Mike Lopez of the Los Angeles Police Department’s Media Relations Section said.

She called 911 and officers responded to the scene, Lopez said.
