The UCLA Hammer Museum at the Billy Wilder Theater, presents a film screening of "Kelin" as part of the Kazakh Film Series.
'Kelin' (2009): According to the UCLA Film and Television Archive, "Writer-director Ermek Tursunov’s first feature tells the story of a young woman in rural Kazakhstan, sold into marriage by her father. Gradually finding happiness with her new family, she faces jeopardy when her former lover comes to reclaim her, bringing violent conflict to her home and her heart. Told almost entirely visually and without dialogue, the film is a stylish and bold achievement in storytelling."
