'Racketeer' (2007): Director Akhan Satayev’s timely drama, set in modern Almaty (the former capital city of Kazakhstan) tells a signature story from the traumatic first years of post-Soviet capitalism. Sayan is an average boy and student who excelled at one thing: boxing. When this talent is exploited for money by local criminal figures, Sayan rises quickly through the ranks as an extortionist, realizing only too late that there is no way out.
