Homeowner Finds Human Remains During Remodel

Los Angeles, CA - Two human leg bones were found at a home undergoing construction in the unincorporated Ladera Heights area, prompting an investigation by sheriff's homicide detectives, authorities said today.

The discovery was made about 11:55 a.m. Thursday in the 5900 block of Wooster Avenue, near the Culver City limit, according Deputy Sara Rodriguez of the Sheriff's Information Bureau.

The homeowner was having work done on the house on Thursday and a construction worker inspecting the home's foundation found two large bones that appeared to be human.

The homeowner contacted the sheriff's Marina Del Rey Station this morning and deputies responded to the residence, retrieved the bones and took them to the coroner's office, Rodriguez said.

"Coroner's office officials and personnel from the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Crime Lab examined the two large bones and determined (they) were a human femur and tibia," Rodriguez said.

Homicide detectives and members of the coroner's Special Operations Response Team inspected the area beneath the house but found no additional remains, she said.

"At this time it is unknown how long the human remains have been at the residence," Rodriguez said.

The coroner's office will work with detectives to identify the victim.
