Motorcyclist Killed Instantly in 405 Freeway Wreck

Rush hour on the San Diego (405) Freeway in West Los Angeles was tied up following a fatal wreck that took the life of a young man.

LOS ANGELES (CNS) -- A motorcyclist was killed Wednesday in a crash on the southbound San Diego (405) Freeway in West Los Angeles.

Kevin Lee, 24, of Winnetka, died at the scene of the crash, which occurred about 6:40 a.m. north of Santa Monica Boulevard, according to the coroner's office and the California Highway Patrol.

Lee was riding a 2007 Honda CBR sport motorcycle that crashed into the rear of a 2014 Dodge Ram pickup truck driven by a 43-year-old Canyon Country man, the CHP reported.

The Honda had been traveling behind the pickup truck in the carpool lane when the Dodge driver swerved right, into the far left main lane, to avoid a ladder that was in the vehicle's path.

Lee also veered into the left main lane, but because the motorcycle was traveling at a high rate of speed, he was unable to stop in time before hitting the pickup truck, according to the CHP.

Lee was ejected onto the pavement as a result of the crash.

The carpool lane and two southbound lanes were blocked, prompting a SigAlert that was canceled about 10:25 a.m., according to the CHP.

Neither the pickup driver nor a 34-year-old Hollywood man who was a passenger in the Dodge were injured.
