The Importance of Puppy Socialization

The most important thing you can do for your puppy is to socialize him and get him used to the real world while he is a puppy.  What does that mean?  It means to introduce him to the sights, smells, sounds, situations, locations -- in other words. the things that he will encounter as he is growing up and as an adult -- so he will reach his fullest potential behaviorally and emotionally.

The Socialization window for your puppy closes at 16 weeks.  Before that time, he is like a sponge and is making connections between his brain cells.  The more connections he has, the more solid his foundation when he encounters new situations in the real world.  With proper socialization, his foundation will be built on concrete.  Without proper socialization, his foundation will be built on chicken wire.  Which foundation would you rather he have?

But there is a conflict here between socializing him and protecting him from disease because he has not had all his puppy vaccines.  That's what we will be talking about -- how to socialize him safely and effectively.
