UCLA Added to List of Universities Suspected of Mishandling Sexual Abuse Complaints

The U.S. Department of Education is investigating 76 institutions. No specifics were released about what prompted the UCLA probe.

UCLA was added to a list of colleges and universities under investigation over the handling of sexual abuse complaints, university officials confirmed today, although no specifics were released about what prompted the probe.

University officials said they were cooperating with the U.S. Department of Education in its investigation aimed at ensuring compliance with Title IX requirements for responding to such complaints.

“UCLA is committed to fostering a safe and inclusive environment for our entire campus community,” according to a statement issued by the university. “We take every complaint of sexual misconduct seriously, and offer a comprehensive range of care options for survivors. UCLA will work with the Department of Education in reviewing our practices relating to Title IX compliance.”
