Whittier Police Shooting: 1 Officer Killed, Second Officer And Suspect Wounded (UPDATE)
The shooting took place Monday morning in Whittier.

WHITTIER, CA — An officer was killed Monday in a shooting in Whittier that wounded a second officer and a suspect.
Three people, including two police officers, were shot Monday in Whittier, according to the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department. According to a report in the LA Times, the officers were responding to the scene of a traffic collision and were getting out of their vehicle around 8 a.m. when a suspect in a stolen vehicle opened fire with a semi-automatic pistol.
Whitter police said on Twitter that they were investigating an officer-involved shooting in the area of Colima Road and Mar Vista Street.

Both officers and the suspect were taken to local hospitals for treatment. One of the officers was pronounced dead at the hospital. The wounded suspect and the second officer are in stable condition. The wounded suspect was reportedly a known gang member, according to the report in the Times.
The slain officer was identified as Keith Wayne Boyer, a 27 year veteran of the department.
