AGING LOCAL POPULATION CREATES DEMAND FOR HOMECARE PROFESSIONALS
Home Instead Announces Plans to Hire Caregivers in the Long Beach and Seal Beach Areas to Meet Growing Demand
LONG BEACH, Calif. – December 2, 2014 – As America’s aging population continues to grow, the need for caregivers has become increasingly apparent. That’s why Home Instead Senior Care®, the leading global provider of home care services for seniors, has announced that its Long Beach franchise anticipates will be hiring additional CAREGiversSM across the Long Beach and Seal Beach areas to meet this growing demand.
Consider this – by 2050, the number of Americans aged 65 and older is projected to be 88.5 million, more than doubling the 2010 population.[1] More than 65 million people, 29 percent of the U.S. population, provide care for a chronically ill, disabled or aged family member or friend during any given year and spends an average of 20 hours per week providing care for their loved one[2]. As the baby boomer generation starts to enter elderhood, many more individuals will soon be faced with this responsibility.
Not surprisingly, the demand for caregiving services is outweighing the availability of professional caregivers.

“We’re looking for compassionate and caring individuals who enjoy helping others,” said Debbie Teofilo, owner of the Home Instead Senior Care office serving Long Beach and Seal Beach. “These people improve the lives of families in our communities, which can be very satisfying. For recent graduates, job hunters or employed individuals looking to make a change, a career working with seniors can be a very rewarding experience.”
Teofilo added that becoming a caregiver is a great option for individuals looking for a job with a flexible schedule and no medical skills or training required. Not only do caregivers maintain a healthy work-life balance, they also often develop a personal connection with their clients and become a part of the families they support.

Just one year of previous caregiving experience with seniors is requested, though no previous professional training is required. Home Instead caregivers receive regular formal training through the Home Instead® CAREGiverSM training program, complementing their experience so they have all the skills necessary to enhance the quality of life of seniors and provide support that allows them to remain in their homes.
“The work is flexible and I truly feel that I am making a difference in people’s lives,” says Maria Wagner, Home Instead caregiver. “I’m thrilled to be working with some truly amazing people.”
