• Whitney High School In Cerritos Ranked Among Top 15 High Schools Nationally (patch.com) — Cerritos residents can celebrate Whitney High School being ranked No. 11 in the nation in U.S. News & World Report's 2026-2027 Best High Schools list. The report evaluated tens of thousands of schools and highlighted Whitney's strong performance on state tests, graduation rates, and college readiness, alongside other top-performing Los Angeles County campuses.
   

• ABC Announces Special On-Sale Liquor Licenses for Los Angeles (ca.gov) — If you're planning to open a restaurant or bar in Cerritos, the state is offering a limited batch of new Type 87 on-sale liquor licenses for Los Angeles County, with applications accepted locally at the ABC office on Center Court Drive. From September 14–25, 2026, eligible applicants can file, possibly enter a drawing, and then have 90 days to complete their full license paperwork.
   

• A Knife-Wielding Man Caused Panic at a Restaurant—Then a Customer Fought Back (opposingviews.com) — A man carrying a knife was fatally shot by an armed customer at Lucille's Smokehouse Bar-B-Que in Cerritos after allegedly advancing despite warnings to drop the weapon. Deputies say the disturbance began with a possibly stolen vehicle abandoned near the shopping center, leaving workers and shoppers rattled as investigators piece together the man's actions and motive.
