Artesia Deputy-Involved Shooting Leaves Man Hospitalized

This was the second deputy-involved shooting in under 4 hours, police said.

ARTESIA, CA – A deputy-involved shooting left a man hospitalized in unknown condition early Monday morning in Artesia, authorities said. This was the second DIS in under four hours, police said.

The Artesia shooting was reported at 12:08 a.m. at Horst Avenue and Artesia Boulevard, said Deputy Wally Bracks of the Sheriff's Information Bureau. The man was handcuffed and transported via ambulance to a medical center after he was shot in the lower body, according to ABC7.

No deputies were injured, Bracks said. An investigation into the shooting is ongoing, ABC7 reported.

A deputy-involved shooting was also reported in the Westmont area abutting South Los Angeles, but few details were immediately released. It was reported at 8:20 p.m. Sunday in the 1200 block of West 107th Street, Bracks said. No deputies were injured, Bracks said.

The status of the suspect and circumstances of the shooting were not immediately released. Sheriff's homicide detectives were investigating both shootings, according to the department.
