Calling on Norwalk City United!
Calling all Norwalk residents! Let us tell you about the Norwalk City United Coalition

The mission is to engage with our diverse communities through a collective, cross cultural and comprehensive substance abuse prevention strategy. Our goal is to reduce overall youth and young adult substance use in Norwalk.
The vision: “We want underage alcohol access to be a distant memory. We aim to reduce underage retail access of alcohol by creating a relationship with the community and alcohol retailers. Our partnership will strengthen the community through prevention efforts that focus on merchants committing to prevent alcohol access and community members caring about health creating a bright future for Norwalk.”
Helpline Youth Counseling and Norwalk City United have partnered to bring attention to the issue of underage drinking. HYC and active members have worked with local retailers to take a stand against underage drinking.

NCU and HYC have made meaningful relationships with local government officials that have continued to fight against easy access of alcohol for underage youth. The coalition youth members volunteer their time to talk to retailers about the 8-Step Framework. The purpose is to ask the retailers to become Merchant Committed. The Merchant Committed Program is a pledge from the retailers to the community that they will do all they can to prevent youth accessing alcohol. Thanks to the efforts of the City of Norwalk, Norwalk Chamber of Commerce, HYC, and NCU, five retailers have made their pledges.
The NCU meets every three months to update the group and talk about the next tasks.
