Cerritos College Dental Hygiene Rocks National Table Clinic Competition

Cerritos College's dental hygiene students took home top prizes at the American Dental Hygienists' Association national competition in Boston, Massachusetts in June.

Students Christina Chavez and Tammy Glover won first place in the Informational Category with the presentation entitled "An Intimate Relationship....HPV and Oral Cancer." David Whaley and Nicole Pelc also competed in the Informational Category and placed second with "Rheumor Has It: The Link between Rheumatoid Arthritis & Periodontal Disease."


Pelc and WhaleyEvery year, students in the Cerritos College Dental Hygiene Program compete in a national table clinic competition. The table clinic competition is a table top presentation addressing a topic in dental hygiene. Students are judged on the quality of the board, the quality of the presentation and the timeliness of the topic. A total of 64 table clinics from across the nation competed this year.

State competition participantsAdditionally, Susana Magana, Madona Joseph and Nadia Nava, who competed in the California table clinic competition and won second place for "Unmasking the Truth: Testing the Bacterial Filtration Efficiency of Face Masks When Exposed to Aerosols," were approached by representatives from dental hygiene journals encouraging them to publish their unique research.
