Cerritos High Earns First-Round Bye In CIF Girls Water Polo Tournament

The third-seeded Dons will host the winner of a wild-card game Saturday.

The San Gabriel Valley League made quite a splash in the CIF Division 6 Girl’s Water Polo Playoffs, as they have two teams seeded, including No. 3 Cerritos High.

Cerritos, the second-place team from the San Gabriel Valley League, is one of nine teams that earned a first-round bye in Division 6. Downey Warren High, the SGVL champion, is the top seed in the division.

The CIF Girls Water Polo playoffs begin Tuesday with wild-card games in some divisions. First round games in Division 6 are Thursday at 5 p.m.  Winners advance to the second round on Saturday. The CIF Finals are scheduled for Saturday, Feb. 26 at the Aquatics Center in Irvine.

The top four seeds in the division are Warren, Pasadena Poly, Cerritos and La Quinta.

The Dons will host a second round match Saturday against the winner of the Palm Desert (Desert Valley League No. 3)-Garden Grove Pacifica (Empire League No. 2) game Thursday.

Warren will face the winner of Thursday’s first-round game between Carpinteria and Pasadena Mayfield High Schools.

Downey High, the third-place team from the SGVL, hosts Cate from Carpinteria in a first-round game Thursday at 5 p.m.
