Coroner Identifies Man Fatally Stabbed In Cerritos

Authorities found the victim suffering from multiple stab wounds.

CERRITOS, CA – The coroner's office Monday released the name of a homeless man fatally stabbed near an encampment in a commercial area in Cerritos. He was Robert Gonzalez, 27, the coroner's office said.

Deputies responded about 2:55 p.m. Wednesday to an abandoned railway between commercial buildings near the 16200 block of Shoemaker Avenue to investigate a report of an assault with a deadly weapon and found the victim suffering from multiple stab wounds, according to the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department.

The man was taken to a hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

"It appears the victim was a transient and lived nearby in a homeless encampment," according to a sheriff's department statement.

No suspect description was available and no weapon was recovered, officials said.
