Craft of the Week: The Perfect Pin-Up

See how something as simple as string and clothes pins can transform your living space.

Crafts are a great way to exercise your artistic side but they are also very useful at bringing people together.

Each week, we will post a simple and easy project for your enjoyment. This is a great opportunity for you to reconnect with your friends and family while enjoying a weekly craft night.

Clothes Pin Photo Display
This craft is the easiest Craft of the Week to date! Watch how a simple string of clothes pins can transform your walls or space. This type of decor can be used around the home for day-to-day display or it can be used for special occasions. For example, you can use a similar display to showcase holiday cards in the winter or hang a string of photos to celebrate a birthday, wedding, or shower.

What You Need

  • Scissors
  • Push Pins
  • Clothes Pins
  • Photos and Other Personal Memorabilia
  • Heavy Duty Jute or Other Sturdy Type of Thin Rope

Step 1

Find an area you would like to decorate. For the purposes of this craft, I used the wall space above my desk. Feel free to hang them outdoors for events or in hallways and living rooms too.

Step 2
Using your scissors, cut one or more lines of jute. Depending on your space and design, you may want more strands or have some at a variety of lengths.

Step 3
Tie knots near the ends of your jute. Insert a push pin through the knot near the ends of each strand. The knot will provide stability, otherwise the jute may be more likely to unravel around the push pin.

Step 4
Use the push pins to anchor the strands to the wall. Depending on your design, you can keep the strands loose or hang them tight.

Step 5
Collect photos, stickers, flyers, and any other personal memorabilia you may want to add to the string. I advise you to begin with a lot of different items and then carefully select from your pile.

Step 6
Use the clothes pins to hang up your personal items and enjoy.

Fun Tip: This project also looks great when hung vertically. Also, don't be afraid to add different items to the stand. For example, things like postcards, concert tickets, and small trinkets can add a lot of character and depth to your art.
