Gahr Topples Cerritos, 51-6, Claims City Dominance
Playing for the Milk Can trophy, Gahr makes a statement with a big non-league victory.
The Gahr Gladiators routed cross-town-rival Cerritos High, 51-6, en route to maintaining their undefeated season Friday night at Hanford Rants Stadium.
The Gladiators (3-0) left nothing to chance against the Dons (0-3) after surviving last week against Northwood (Irvine) on a blocked field goal as time expired.
Friday night’s game marked the beginning of the battle for the Milk Can, an annual contest held to determine who has the best football team in the city of Cerritos. With the win, Gahr served notice to the rest of the community that they intend to keep their favorite decoration. The Gladiators will take on Artesia High next week as they look to defend the trophy until next year.

“We’re going to give it all we got,” said Gahr senior offensive lineman Austin Boyd of his team’s upcoming challenge against Artesia. “It’s going to be a massacre.”

Gladiators quarterback Eric Richardson threw for 320 yards and five touchdowns. Standout receivers Delshawn McClellon and Dewayne Washington combined for 257 receiving yards, and all five of Richardson’s touchdowns.
As much trouble as Cerritos had stopping Gahr’s air attack, the Dons struggled mightily on offense as well. The Dons scored their first touchdown in eight quarters in the fourth quarter Friday night after being shut out by Morningside High the week before.
Cerritos senior quarterback Bo Nelson connected with Kyle Williams deep down the middle for the score.
“The players are not pleased with their performance,” said Dons interim coach Shontae Pouncey. “We have to get better as an offensive front.”
