Gateway Man Convicted of Killing Wife, Stabbing 6-Month-Old Baby

A Los Angeles Superior Court jury deliberated less than two hours before finding Felton Humphries Jr. guilty.

SOUTH GATE, CA -- A 30-year-old man was convicted Friday of fatally stabbing his wife in South Gate and injuring the couple's then-6-month-old child in April.

A Los Angeles Superior Court jury deliberated less than two hours before finding Felton Humphries Jr. guilty of first-degree of his 32-year-old wife, Alicia Williams, according to Ricardo Santiago of the Los Angeles County District Attorney's Office.

Humphries additionally was convicted of one count each of attempted murder, assault with a deadly weapon, resisting arrest and interference with a police animal, Santiago said.

The attack was reported about 7:10 p.m. April 3 in the 5200 block of Pendleton Avenue, the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department reported.

Humphries' wife died just before 7 a.m. the next day.

The couple's 6-month-old child also was stabbed during the altercation, authorities said.

Humphries -- who had a prior conviction for assault with a deadly weapon in November 2012 -- was arrested the night of the stabbing and has remained behind bars since then.

He is facing more than 70 years to life in state prison, according to Santiago.

Sentencing is set Dec. 7 in a downtown Los Angeles courtroom.
