Paramount Man Killed in Shooting ID'd as Hector Velasquez

He was was standing on a sidewalk when someone shot him and friends took the victim to a hospital, authorities said.

PARAMOUNT, CA - A 44-year-old man shot and killed while standing on a Paramount sidewalk was identified Sunday.

Hector Velasquez died from a gunshot wound to the chest, according to the Los Angeles County coroner's office.

The shooting was reported at 12:10 p.m. Friday, in the 8200 block of Ackley Street, between Downey Avenue and Paramount Boulevard, according to Deputy Ryan Rouzan of the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Information Bureau.

The victim now identified as Velasquez was taken to a hospital, where he was pronounced dead, Rouzan said.

Deputies from the sheriff's Lakewood Station responded to a report of an assault with a deadly weapon and a gunshot victim at the scene, but were initially unable to locate anyone who had been shot, Rouzan said.

Deputies were later told the man was standing on a sidewalk when someone shot him and friends took the victim to a hospital, Rouzan said.

No suspect information has been made available.

Sheriff's Homicide Bureau detectives are investigating the killing.
