Suspect Who Allegedly Pointed Gun at Handyman Last Week Barricaded Inside Norwalk Home

The victim spotted the suspect inside a home that is supposed to be vacant and called authorities, police said.

NORWALK, CA - A standoff at a Norwalk home ended Monday night when authorities entered the residence, but the suspect was not inside.

The male suspect — who allegedly pointed a gun at a handyman on Friday — barricaded himself in a vacant home in the 1200 block of Crewe Street at about 1:50 p.m., sheriff's Sgt. George Suarez of the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Norwalk Station said.

The standoff, which a SWAT team responded to, ended about 8:25 p.m., said sheriff's Lt. Jeff Dusky.

Authorities were confident the suspect was inside the residence when the incident initially occurred, Dusky said, citing statements from witnesses and deputies.

Deputies contained the area but the man did not respond to SWAT team commands to surrender, Suarez said.

"Sometimes these people slip out of containment," Dusky said, noting that time lapses and other variables can impact such a situation.

When the handyman returned to the home Monday, he spotted the suspect inside and contacted authorities, according to Suarez.

Authorities are seeking the suspect and have pertinent information to identify him, Dusky said.
