Woman Killed, Man Arrested on Manslaughter Charges in Deadly Wreck

Authorities withheld the name of the fatally injured woman, a Paramount resident in her 20s, pending notification of her relatives.

PARAMOUNT, CA - A woman passenger was killed Thursday in a car crash in Paramount, and the driver was arrested on suspicion of vehicular manslaughter, authorities said.

It happened about 3 a.m. at Somerset Boulevard and Texaco Avenue, coroner's Assistant Chief Ed Winter said.

The man driving the 2013 Chevrolet Camaro was arrested on suspicion of vehicular manslaughter, said sheriff's Sgt. Paul Jernigan of the Lakewood Station. His name was not immediately released.

According to the preliminary investigation, the motorist was driving east on Somerset Boulevard at a high rate of speed when the car went out of control and hit a tree, Jernigan said.
